چکیده

ABSTRACT Cortisol is a steroid hormone, one of the glucocorticoids, made in cortex adrenal glands and then released into blood, which transports it entire body. Almost every cell contains receptors for cortisol so can have lots different actions depending on sort cells acting upon. These effects include controlling body’s blood sugar levels thus regulating metabolism, as an anti-inflammatory product, salt water balance influencing pressure. The study was conducted over period 3 months, between March-August 2020, 2 swine farms Iasi county, Romania, total 46 pigs, to 4 months old, both males females, order investigate stress finishing facilities. revealed higher while eosinophil counts severely decreased, changes are associated with strong reaction individuals that were housed

Campylobacter in Finisher Pigs—from Farm to Slaughter

Campylobacter excretion and diversity was investigated in three cohorts of 20 pigs from three different pig herds, respectively. Feces were collected from all pigs in the herd and after transport during lairage. Carcass swab samples were collected from all pigs preand post-chilling. All pigs (n=60) excreted Campylobacter in the herd and in the lairage. The typical excretion levels were between ...

Reduction of transport-induced stress on finishing pigs by increasing lairage time at the slaughter house

Materials and methods: A total of 200 pigs (129 gilts and 71 barrows) were subjected to two different lairage times at the slaughterhouse, short lairage (3 hours) and long lairage (12 hours), after a short journey (15 km, 20 minutes) by road from farm to abattoir. Blood samples were collected at the beginning of the slaughter line to determine stress markers: acute phase proteins (haptoglobin, ...

Legal requirements and assessment of stress and welfare during transportation and pre-slaughter handling of pigs

Transportation is considered as a major stressor for farm animals and might have deleterious effects on the health, wellbeing, performance and ultimately on product quality. The European Commission has adopted new transportation rules for animal transport, but research on stress related situations before, during and after transport is still scarce. Assessment of stress during animal transportat...

Pigs' aggressive temperament affects pre-slaughter mixing aggression, stress and meat quality.

Pre-slaughter stress has a negative impact on animal welfare and on meat quality. Aggressive behaviour when pigs are mixed together for transportation to, or on arrival at, the abattoir is an important factor in pre-slaughter stress. Aggressiveness of pigs varies between individuals in the population, and this study investigated its effects on stress and meat quality at slaughter. We mixed pigs...

Pre-slaughter conditions, animal stress and welfare: current status and possible future research.

The present paper describes the main procedures used to slaughter fowl, pigs, calves and adult cattle, sheep, and farmed fish, starting on the farm and ending with the death of the animal at the abattoir. It reviews the currently known causes of stress, indicated by behavioural and physiological measurements on the animal level, and by post-mortem muscle metabolism. During the pre-slaughter per...
